When you find a blue stone you have discovered something precious!™

Our herd is all Huacaya, full Peruvian, some with blended Accoyo pedigrees. And you will find something precious here to start or complement your herd.

Did you know that "Peruvian" really has more to do with genetic refinement than country of origin?

Most "Peruvian" U.S. alpacas have been selectively imported from large, well respected fiber co-operatives where genetic refinement is practiced. These co-ops are located in Peru near the fiber processing mills and they want to sell to high fashion industry in Europe and Asia. So their alpacas are improved through intense selection to produce the most desirable fiber for a specific end use.

Many U.S. imports from the 1980's introduction were from small Indian herds in Chile. The latter imports, 1993 to 1998, were mainly from large co-ops in Peru, but were also selected from other well managed herds. Julio Barreda made his Accoyo ranch famous by refining his alpacas toward a measurable, reproducible standard.

These refined, "Peruvian" alpacas are a much improved version over primitive alpacas. They exhibit remarkable fineness, excellent crimp and uniform density. Therefore, breeders in the U.S. have most often associated the ideal type alpaca with Peruvian alpacas.

Careful breeding decisions are paramount for success. A great pedigree must accompany great conformation and great fleece. The ultimate test of breeding value is reproducibility of the highest standards.
